So I have a bunch of local H22A4s to choose from and can't decide. It might be easier to stay with a 97-98 because I can stay OBD2A and use most of my civic harness. Most of the 97-98s around here have 100,000 to 130,000 miles on them. Or I can get an engine with better miles in an OBD2B, get a new harness and buy a OBD2B to ODB2A jumper harness. I was planning on having the engine rebuilt but if I got a motor with under 60,000 miles on it I probably wouldn't. I want to try and pick up the engine tomorrow so I need to decide.

First picture after we got it off the truck

First look inside - not bad but not great either

Looks like one hell of an oil leak - cam shaft seal maybe? and some battery acid I think

And of course they smashed the tps

Inside of the valve cover looks a little burnt

Back in the garage

Good location for the fuel filter?

I never showed how I routed my washer fluid lines - through the hood and out into the fender.

I love the wheel offset

Carbon cargo cover

Replacement exhaust shield for ebrake cables

H22 Shifter and cables

Cable bracket I can use as a template

Test fitting shifter

Square peg round hole

I think this location will work- I wish I did this when the dash was out

Brake hoses and fuel feed line waiting - I need to tuck my computer harness haha

Starting work on the shifter

template created

meet my angle grinder

cardboard to stop the sparks

fits down inside

cable hole cut

mocked up

time to fab up the box/cover for under the car

just using aluminum so we can bend and cut it easily

good start

first part in place

sides on

spray painted

cable opening - I am not sure if the grommet should be on the inside or out

cables in the right place - a little long but that is ok

all done

Here is a closer shot of the thick layer of grime sitting on the transmission. Notice the battery acid.

About a hour later things were looking much better. I used simple green and brake cleaner with lots of paper towels.

Getting there

Good thing about the oil is that it kept everything underneath protected

Still have a lot of work to do in this area. I have to unbolt a lot to gain better access.

Does anyone know if I will need the in-line clutch fluid damper shown as #22?

I might just go with stainless braided line from the master to the slave.

I also need to figure out what radiator hoses to use and what heater hoses to use.

Intake manifold, plug wires, coil, etc....removed from the block

Wire harness labeled and removed

Getting shiny

First look at the valves and intake side of the head - lots of nasty build-up but not on the valves. I spun the crank and all the valves opened and closed nicely and it sounds like great compression

Better shot of the back

Tonight my buddy and I will probably-
-take off the headers
-drop the oil pan and clean / check out how everything looks from underneath
-mount the cat-back system
-fix the grommet on the shift cables
