My Supercharged Taurus SHO

I tried to get the motor this past weekend but I had to take a cam out to remove a lash cap as one of the valves would not come into spec with the smallest shim made (2mm). When I went to tighten the cam back down the threads stripped (actually pulled out a helicoil that I had a machine shop put in) out. I'm assuming that the shop did not have the right tap and thus why it stripped. I helicoil'd many threads for the cam caps and they're doing fine.

I have a buddy that works at a machine shop coming over this weekend and bringing me the tools I need to fix it. Since I already used a helicoil and stripped that out, I have to ream out the cap and go to a bigger bolt. Worse-case, I'll take the head off and have it tiq welded and re-drilled/tapped.

Here is how close I was to putting it in the car this weekend (since I couldn't, I installed my new Corbeau seats).

The SHO clutch and the Escort clutch aren't exactly the same. Also, the stock clutch can hold about 300hp (not sure on torque).

That's not a Jr. kit. It is what SHO Shop used to call the "Race" clutch made by Clutchmasters, which is a stage III and as the best clutch you can get for the car, and can hold more power than anyone has ever made in a SHO (to include a built SHO running 20+ PSI). The stage III has a double diaphragm PP and has a clamp load of 3,500 lbs and a windowed Kevlar disk. I ran the stage "Jr." kit for a very short time and smoked it on a 1-2 shift racing another SC SHO.

....

You know what I mean. The same 7/8ths X 20T input shaft and mechanicals. I looked it up and Ford actually did something about it in '91...the flywheel anyway.

Both the flywheel and clutch changed. The clutch got bigger and it changed to a cast PP versus the old stamped steel.

haha i dont think any cop will ever be suspicious of you having your car modded. Really nice sleeper. How do the coni shocks and springs perform? Springs stiff?

Aside from a loud supercharger whistle and a 3" exhaust, big wheels, huge brakes and a lower stance, they may not notice :-)

The Koni's do very well with the Intrax springs I have. I originally had Eibach springs on the shocks, but they Eibach's didn't lower the car enough. I considered running coilovers and having the shocks revalved, but they already handle well on track and in the canyons and ride decent on the streets (since it is a street car anyway).
