From: Consumerguide.com

Year-to-Year Changes
1997 Honda Civic: For 1997, all Civic models wore 14-inch tires. Otherwise, except for the addition of standard wheel covers, changes were minor this year.

1998 Honda Civic: Civic saw little change for '98.

1999 Honda Civic: Honda spruced up the Civic for '99 with minor appearance changes front and rear, plus a revamped dashboard with amber lighting and rotary climate controls in place of sliding levers. Two additional models were added in midyear. The 4-door VP was produced in limited numbers and included air conditioning, keyless entry, and special paint. Also a limited-production model, the 2-door Si got a 160-horsepower engine, 5-speed manual transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, a rear spoiler, and low-profile tires on 15-inch wheels.

2000 Honda Civic: Redesigned, slightly bigger Civics were expected for 2001, so changes were few for 2000. A standard tilt steering wheel went into the base CX model.

The CX also did not have a tach.

Oh, and at least on the EXs, for 1998 you get a maplight. For 1997 you can't. The maplight is only for 1998 and up. It sits right next to the rearview mirror.

The 10th digit in your VIN will tell you what year your vehicle is. The VIN is found on your driver's side of the dash - you can see it by looking at the bottom of the driver's side windshield from the outside of the glass.

Code:
Code	Year
A	1980
B	1981
C	1982
D	1983
E	1984
F	1985
G	1986
H	1987
J	1988
K	1989
L	1990
M	1991
N	1992
P	1993
R	1994
S	1995
T	1996
V	1997
W	1998
X	1999
Y	2000
1	2001
2	2002
3	2003
4	2004
5	2005
6	2006
7	2007
8	2008
9	2009

Depends where you're located. In the us, only the si and ex have clusters. LX, CX, DX's dont have tachs stock.

Yeah, I've owned both a 1997 and a 1998 Hodna Civic EX coupe (both Milano Red and manual transmissions too). The only difference between them that I could see was the '97 came with mud gaurds (but that's an option on all Civics) and the '98 had the maplight which the '97 didn't have.

as far as i know only the ex and si models have tachs. i;m not sure on the hx, but i know for sure that the dx and cx models are tachless

as far as telling a 97 from a 98 look at the vin number, cause other than that they;re pretty much the same thing

My 2000 LX has a stock tach, and so does my sisters 1999 LX. =)
