98 civic ex burning oil ?

hey so a buddy of mine just recently got a 1998 civic ex with a dx tranny. My question is that it burns a s**t load of oil so i was wondering if it has anything to do with the tranny swap or if his crank sensor has anything to do with it cause currently his crank sensor is messed up. also just wondering i had a dx and my sencond gear only did like 60 barely and his does 80 as soon as it hits red line so iono if that helps at all with my question.

so the other day my friend and I go to providence to watch the street races and we get there just fine but as soon as we get to the spot i notice a knock on the head FML!!! turned the car off checked oil and it was fine went to turn the car back on and now it just doesnt want to start do u think the engine seized? if it didnt hes getting another engine for it reguardless and hes getting a ex tranny cause that dx one is killing him on third gear lol.
