That's right, get excited Billy, Joe, and all of club civic's other computer tech junkies ^_^

I bought a laptop today, and I want to upgrade it to run games better. Gameplay is a little choppy right now. There's one game in particular that I like to play a lot and would like to be able to play in full HD fullscreen.

The laptop I got is a Dell Latitude e6400. Got it real cheap. It has Windows 7 professional on it.

Here's a link to the minimum specs for the game I like to play

http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Game_requirements

and here's a link to my laptop's specs.

http://gdgt.com/dell/latitude/e6400/specs/

Though it says it came with windows vista, it has windows 7 on it.

I know it supports up to 8 gigs of memory, but I'm not sure if that's what I'm after. Should I upgrade the graphics card? I'm pretty lost and I need some guidance.

Thanks in advance!

(I know this wasn't worded well but I'm busy playing with the computer lol)

In my experience. Any basic computer with atleast 2gb of ram and an average graphics card will run runescape in full screen hd just fine.

You may want to check the specs on the motherboard for the RAM that it can handle. We have the E6400, E6420, and now the E6430 all with 4GB but for some reason the OS isn't reconizing all of it even though it is a 64-bit OS.

Agreed.

Didn't understand a word of that :/

The graphics on Runescape have improved substantially over the last year so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Last time i played was 5 months ago or so and my friend with the same laptop ran it just, but his ram is upgraded to 4 gigs. Maybe just pick up another 2gb stick and put that in.

We run the same laptops at work. If you are looking to increase the RAM, make sure the motherboard can support it before you go off and just by more.

Can't find a definitive answer, unfortunately, but I've read a few DIY's on upgrading the memory on the E6400 and many people have upgraded to 8 gigs of memory with two 4 gig sticks. The specs say that's the maximum supported amount. So I can only assume that the computer supports it. Unfortunately the price drives up with 4 gig sticks versus 2 gig sticks. Would I still see a dramatic increase in performance with two 2 gig stick of RAM? And does anyone think I should upgrade my graphics card?

Edit: So I have a 32-bit OS, and apparently, from reading online that means that apparently four gig is the most supported with 32 bit, and that there would be no difference between four and eight gigs. UNLESS on a 64 bit OS.

read that here.

^^ there are reports from users on that site that are running 32-bit OS with 8 gigs of memory but only 3.x use able. So does this mean that four gigs is all that's necessary on a 32 bit OS?

Sorry this is all so new to me.

Ram will only do so much it isn't a gaming computer and has crappy specs. It doesn't have a good graphics chip and it's meant for businesses. So upgrade the ram and all that and it will still be choppy due to the slow processor an the lack of good graphics.

Also most laptops you can't upgrade the graphics card it isnt a desktop you are stuck with what you have.

I've read multiple write ups on upgrading graphics cards on these computers, but the graphics card is fine, The picture quality is fine. And the processor is the same speed as my fathers laptop and his computer runs runescape just fine. I don't need a "gaming" computer to run a simple browser based game.

you clearly need to learn a lot about laptops, graphics cards will not affect how the picture quality looks on the screen. As for these so called "write ups" they are mistaken as dell uses a proprietary system and its not something you just slap in there. I searched google for your so called write ups and found nothing other than they are soldered to the motherboard

now I make 50k a year doing programming/ IT for a large financial company and done upgrades on any laptop and this is not one you can upgrade anything other then ram/hard drive without swapping out the whole motherboard

I had never heard of the game but if its browser based it will porbalby use flash or the like in which upgrading your ram will help if its a big flas based game, it will handle the load better. You could change to a 64bit windows and add all 8gb for the most bang for your buck but 4 would help as well.

The game runs on java, and the 4gb upgrade should do fine for the game he is playing. Its not skyrim or diablo 3 or anything like that. The only problem fir the laptop keeping up should be its ram. Do u run anything else while u r playing?

I DO have a lot to learn lol. I found write ups and every one of them mentioned soldering, but I can't follow the terminology lol, so my bad. But yeah I may just upgrade to the 4 gigs. The game is running better today for some reason. But I may get a faster/larger hard drive for the hell of it as well.

and nah I don't run anything else while playing.
