Find out the brand of the head unit, go to google, and find out an Ipod plug that is supported. 90% of head units produced in the last 5 years have an ipod adapter that is made in house. Some plug into an aux port, some into the cd changer port, some into and actual usb port, and a few even have their own type of plug in (eg. audi's mmi plug).
