Car is acting funny

Ok so one day my car idled down to a point where it seemed it was going to cut off but it didnt. As im at the light its doing this in-and-out idleing sound and the car shakes as well. As I give it gas to accelerate, and the sounds like an old harley bike.

I thought it may be a fuel thing as in [ump, injector or bad gas (water in it maybe).
But Then I said it could be the timing belt cause its been a whiiiiiile since its been changed.....I'm sure on that.

Any suggestions and how will you know if the timing belt slipped?

On the flip side any suggestions on getting nasty greas stuff from off of things in the engine bay so it will look nice and so i can identify my oil&brake fluid leak?

For the timing check to see if the pistions along with the camshaft is a TDC ( Top Dead Center), for cleaning the bay try a engine degreaser... such as simple green (I think it is called?).
