Car won't start after swapping cluster

Hi guys, I just bought a 96 hatch CX with a GSR cluster installed. I decided to swap it with a SI cluster. After I rewired the harness, I started the car to check if I missed anything. At first, everything seems to work except signal light. When I turn on either right or left signal, both light flashing. Then I put the cluster back in and tried to start the car again. This time it cranked for like 1 second (or didn't crank at all) then went off together with the dome light and radio until I released the key. The radio channels were reset too. I rewired the harness back to when I could start the car but still no go. Any suggestions would be appreciated..!!:(

Headlights and brake lights but not hazard lights. It's just weird that it started at first and then it did not.

I tried to jumpstart the car but it died a few minutes after I disconnected the cable.. My guess is the alternator.. What you think?

Headlights bright or dim?

Did you test the fuses I mentioned?

Turn the key from off to ON(II). Does the charging system light turn on? If not, check whether 7.5A dash fuse 15 is blown.

Headlights dim. Cant find the fuses you mentioned. None of the lights on cluster works, even the signal.

What should I check to know if the battery is dead? Im not used to electrical systems.. I just dont know what I did wrong when swapping the cluster that caused this problem..

First use a multimeter to Ohm test the fuses I mentioned. If they're bad, replace them. In fact, you really should test all hood and dash fuses. Do you have a multimeter?

The battery is almost surely dead right now. Have it tested and charged by an auto parts store.

If the alternator is not working, that's the reason the battery is dead. A blown fuse 15 could cause the alternator not to work. But again, test all fuses and replace the bad ones.

Ok, I will take off the battery and bring it to Autozone tomorrow to have it tested. How about the alternator? Is there anyway to test it if all the fuses are good?

Yes, but first get the battery tested/charged/replaced. Then test all fuses and replace the blown ones. Note the fuse numbers of all/any fuses that are blown and post them.

Do you have a multimeter?

Underhood: Fuse 47 blown
In dash: Fuse 15 blown
Replaced both and now I have the battery light on the cluster but still couldnt start the car.

Did you check ALL fuses?

  1. Install new properly rated fuses into slots 15 and 47.
  2. Install new or charged battery.
  3. Start engine and and let idle.
  4. Check whether fuses 15 and 47 (or any other fuses) blow again.
