no A/C on every car on the market?

I’ve been looking at these 4th gen hatches and so many of them don’t have any working A/C. Is there some reason why the A/C goes out on these cars or is removed?

Being that they are 86-91 vehicles it not suprising that the AC may not be functioning. AC systems if maintained should work problem free for a good 10 years before severe service or repair is required.

Got to remember these cars are nearing 40 years old.

first problem is that the o-rings dry out, and the refrigerant escapes.
once that happens, the system gets ruined because air and moisture make it inside.

Most people don't realize, the refrigerant lubricates the entire system, and it must be used regularly, or it will fail.
Think about the refrigerator in your house, literally the same system, and they will work flawlessly for decades, since they're always running.

also worth noting, A/C systems pre 2000, were a huge drag on the engines.
removing it was a quick and easy way to increase performance.
