looking at purchasing d16y7 w/y8 vtec head. Owner knows nothing about the engine other than he swapped it out for a customer who upgraded. Says compression is 175 across all cylinders - is this good or not?

ya its good, perfect shape would be 184 psi across the board. thats the specs for your engine.

as long as they are all within a few psi of each other its pretty good. typically you wont get the same compression for all cylinders because air doesnt flow perfectly even into all the cylinders

I'm goin for it!!

I'm gonna go ahead and buy it and have the guy do the complete swap for me! I have to tow my baby about 150 miles - but he's giving me a good price and he's a mechanic at acura - how sweet is that??! I get to keep my old engine and play around rebuilding it at my leisure so next time I'll know how to do it! Thank you for all your help...I wouldn't have done it without your input!!:woot::party2:
