I got an lsvtec and Im going to change the oil and water pump to gsr pumps. I dont want to mess anything up so I called up some So called honda mechanics that do swaps, ect. But the thing is that one mechanic told me Not to change the water pump and keep it ls pump. bc the belt wont fit. it will be either too tight or too loose. so my question is what do you guys think should I change the water pump?I want to get these pumps installed by this weekend but now idk about the water pump.

Simply put your mechanics are partial idiots.
gsr/itr/b16 water pump=ITR/GSR timing belt
Ls water pump=Ls timing belt
B16 timing belts cannot be used.

Any 96+ oil pump is the same as a type R oil pump so don't change it if you engine is a 96+Ls. Also the lower timing covers are different because of the style of the pump because of the CKF sensor that goes on it. But if you got an older style Ls go for it. You can run the older style timing cover on the newer pump with a little trimming off the bottom and it fits fine.
