Secret rev limiter???

I just bought my first car, and ej1 civic. Coming home from the shop after getting a tune up i come to a red light. I floor it just to see what the little Z6 had power wise. after vtec engaged the revs made a sound that sounded very identically to redline at about 6k. i asked the original owner if he ever added a rev limiter to the car, he said no. Im not sure if there is a rev limiter but i have noticed when driving the stock exhaust is louder than normal and my friend notices the same of my car, so maybe the tach isnt in sync? im not sure... If the car does have a rev limiter, where do i look to remove it?

All cars come stock with a rev limiter. It prevents your motor from revving to high which will cause DAMAGE! Hence, why it's called a rev limiter.

+1, pics would help... or you could just look at the stamp and tell us. Cause on a Z6 factory Rev Limiter is right around 7,500... just a smidge past redline. Also you could have a faulty tach, unlikely but still.

that is all true, but the previous owner could have swapped a different engine in or replaced it so pics are the best way to find out what it is

The stamp says d16z6 on it. Everything is completely stock other than the clutch. .I also have an obd1 p28 ecu? is that bad or good? i really wanna know if i really relined or just rev limited when i hit it in first.... im kinda scared to go that high now. Oh and vtec engaged at about 5200 rpm. Every gauge on the dash works but the speedometer.
