Some steering joint problem while changing ball joints.

I was changing my ball joints, and upon completing one side, I can't get the nut to screw back on the little joint the connect to the steering. The joint looks really beat up too, and when I try to tighten the nut it too spins with the nut.

Is this broken and if it is, how hard is it to replace/

Also, what is the actual name for this part?

It's called the outer tie rod end, just buy a new one at an auto parts store and install it, then get an alignment.

Thanks. Quick trip to the auto parts store then to buy two of those and some sort of fork to get the other damn ball joint out. I'm pretty pissed with how everything's going. Oh well.

Nice. I just got back and had bought one exactly like that. Lucky for me, I live extremely close to numerous autoparts so it's not bad to have to find parts or tools as long as it's still early.

EDIT: This is one touch joint, not even the fork will work.
