Hey everyone, I noticed today that when shifting into 3rd gear I get some grinding sound, still goes into to gear and works good, but the grindding is worrisome. This only happens when I shift past 4000 rpm. Is it my 3rd gear that's starting to bugger, or somethingelse? I've Changed my gear oil just recently and my car is mostly stock. Any responce would be helpfull on what to do.

def 3rd gear synchro. don't shift into 3rd at such high rpms. if you need to, don't shift into third so quickly, take your time and let the rpms drop a little before putting it into 3rd.
or, if you got the monies get a used replacement tranny from zee junkyard

But seriously, just get it fixed. It obviously has an issue if it's not working the way it should. My 3rd gear does exactly the same thing. If I shift under 3000, it shifts smooth as butters. If I shift over it, especially when I get on it, it sounds terrible. Same thing down shifting. Buuuut I'm too broke to fix it.

Wow, that happened to me on my 96 HX... I thought I just sucked at driving since it was my first manual car.

third gear synchro's is bad change it ASAP
i know it is i had a vw with a sticking synchro and that actually worked.
Its it me, or does everyone have or had the 3rd gear blues at some point in time..lol
its not just you lol
