I've never touched anything on the steering wheel. Nothing with the airbag has been messed with, only thing so far was the seatbelt tensioner was replaced. The SRS light came on with me doing nothing but driving as usual.

That bottom ball joint would be part of the popping. Anytime you turn the wheel with load on it, and the ball joint is bad it pops.
